Family Law
Standout in Hopkins County, Clay boasts the unique distinction of being the only attorney Board-Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. With a five-year stint as an elected family law judge, he's your seasoned navigator through the choppy waters of divorce, child custody, adoption, name changes, and all manner of family law conundrums.
Criminal Law
Among the elite, Clay is one of just two attorneys in Hopkins County to hold Board Certification in Criminal Law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. His legal odyssey includes prosecuting federal criminal cases abroad while leading a team of Air Force attorneys and paralegals. Back in Sulphur Springs, he spent five years tackling complex felony prosecutions. Now, he stands as a staunch defender for private citizens facing misdemeanor and felony charges across East Texas. Clay's experience spans both sides of the courtroom, having advocated in appellate courts, including presenting oral arguments before the Texarkana 6th Court of Appeals.
Civil Litigation
Having made a pivotal choice to attend Baylor Law School, renowned for its focus on training trial lawyers, over an offer for the prestigious Hatton Sumners Scholarship at SMU Law School - Clay set his sights on being a litigator from the beginning. He graduated from Baylor Law School with a full-tuition academic scholarship in 2007. His real-world experience truly defines his expertise; having served as a judge over numerous civil cases, Clay now brings his seasoned perspective to the courtroom, representing a diverse clientele from businesses to government entities and private individuals. His practice spans both state and federal jurisdictions, including the Eastern and Western Districts of Texas, where he applies his comprehensive understanding of civil law to advocate effectively for his clients. Clay represents U.S. and international clients in complex civil matters.
Wills and Probate
In 2019, Clay was honored by his appointment to the Texas Supreme Court's Task Force on Mental Health legal procedures, contributing to the development of forms for such cases. His practical experience includes helping hundreds of clients with drafting wills, financial and medical powers of attorney, and designations of guardian. As a judge, he adjudicated will contests and disputes over testamentary capacity. Clay's legal services cover drafting ladybird deeds, obtaining declaratory judgment relief when needed, and representing clients in both uncontested and contested probate matters. He also provides robust representation in litigation related to trusts.
For simple will packages which include powers of attorney, advance directives, etc., most individuals pay $600 and couples $900, with some discounts available.

Trial Attorney Lawyer
About Clay Harrison, Attorney at Law P.L.L.C.
"I have flown through the jungle in a helicopter with Green Berets, and I have turned a Hopkins County bull into a Hopkins County steer by using a rubber band. I have advised a One-Star General on international law in Japan and I have mowed half the yards in Sulphur Springs. I have been island-hopping on a speed boat with Navy SEALs and I have divided pots and pans between divorcing couples in East Texas.
As a trial attorney, I have tried cases before judges and juries. As a judge, I have decided hard cases involving millions of dollars. I have sat in chambers with children - and listened - before making the ruling that would change their lives forever.
Whether far abroad or back home, I have been blessed with countless opportunities to be a problem-solver. Now, I look forward to serving the folks of East Texas as their trusted guide, counsel, and advocate."
